As we return from Spring Break and bring more students into the schools for in-person learning, continuing the robust health and safety measures is even more important.

Our health and safety measures follow with the latest CDC and WA State Department of Health school guidelines. Together all of the precautions help create layers of protection to reduce potential exposure to COVID-19 while at school.

Face Coverings
All staff and students will wear face coverings while at school. Face covering will only be removed when eating or drinking.

Wear the Right Mask

Physical Distancing

At least three feet of physical distance will be maintained between students while in the classroom. In common areas, while eating, and during PE and band students will maintain six feet of distancing. Adults will maintain six feet of physical distancing with both adults and students.

Wellness Screening
All students and staff will complete a daily wellness screening to answer the questions in Skyward and have their temperature taken on-site.

Hand Hygiene
Regular hand washing or sanitizing will happen throughout the day including before and after meals, after using the restroom, and when transitioning between activities.

Cohorts and Contact Tracing Support
Whenever possible we will group students in cohorts, groups that stay together throughout the day. In PTHS where cohorting is not possible in the six period day we will monitor community transmission levels, and ensure six feet of distancing if there is high community transmission.

Classrooms and schools will maintain class lists and seating charts to assist in any contract tracing as necessary.

Enhanced Cleaning
Staff will follow CDC and DOH guidance on cleaning and disinfecting of high touch surfaces and shared spaces.

Stay Home with Symptoms
Staff and students will stay home with symptoms and follow the flow chart to determine when they can return to school.

Isolation of Anyone with Symptoms
If a student or staff member exhibits any COVID-19 like symptoms at school they will be removed from the classroom and sent home, and areas that the student or staff used during the time they were at school will be cleaned. Each school has a quarantine area for students to wait until they can be picked up.

Communication and Reporting
In the event of potential school exposure from a confirmed COVID-19 case in a staff or student of Port Townsend Public Schools, we will notify all staff and families as soon as possible. Due to confidentiality we will only share the school that the case was associated with. Jefferson County Public Health will directly contact anyone who is a close contact of the confirmed case, and provide follow up instructions for testing and quarantine.

Depending on the circumstances and levels of exposure, the schools will do one or more of the following: deep cleaning of all impacted spaces, move learning spaces to non-impacted areas, move one or more cohorts or groups to distance learning for a period of time, move a whole school to distance learning for a period of time, or move the whole district to distance learning for a period of time. All decisions will be made based on the health and safety of staff and students, and after working closely with Jefferson County Public Health.

A COVID-19 dashboard is available where reporting of confirmed cases, and staff or students in quarantine is kept up to date. This data is based upon the data provided by Jefferson County Health Department, and is updated as information is provided. This data only includes staff and students who are attending work or school on-site.
