Message from Superintendent Polm regarding school board elections.
Dear Port Townsend Community,
The recent election results are not yet final, but at this time the Port Townsend Schools will have two new school board members beginning in December. Doug Ross is the apparent winner of this year’s Port Townsend School Board contested election for District Position 3. As of November 15, Doug Ross has received 3,303 votes (60.12%) compared to Jim Sherwood’s 2,191 votes (39.88%). He will replace Keith White, who decided not to seek re-election.
Also new to the Port Townsend School Board is Jeff Taylor, who ran unopposed for District Director Position 2. He will replace Laura Tucker, who decided not to seek re-election. Incumbent Nathanael O'Hara ran unopposed for At Large Director Position 5 and will continue to serve in that position.
Together with directors Connie Welch and Jennifer James-Wilson, they will constitute a governing board tasked with providing vision, accountability, and advocacy for the students here in Port Townsend. School Board members are volunteers who serve our community tirelessly in an effort to provide the highest quality education possible for students.
Special thanks to the service of outgoing board members Laura Tucker and Keith White who leave the board after the November 18 regular business meeting. Also, thanks to Jim Sherwood for offering his service and entering the political arena as a candidate.
The Jefferson County Auditor’s Office will certify the results on November 26 and the Secretary of State certifies the results by December 5.
All three newly elected directors will take their oath of office at the December 5 school board meeting. The meeting begins at 5:30 pm at the Gael Stuart Administration Building in room S-11.
Sincerely,
John A. Polm, Jr., Ed.D.
