Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe Partnership
To support the Indian Education program the Port Townsend School District has entered into a formal agreement with the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe. The two documents below outline the details of the partnership agreement.
Indian Education Program, Title VI and Form 506
A Federal Grant called Title VI (Six) Part A—Indian Education supports this program. To apply for the grant, the District must do a count of all AI/AN students within the District. This program is completely voluntary for AI/AN students and families.

Who is Eligible?
● Students in grades K-12 that are enrolled at a school within the District; and
● Student, or student’s parent/guardian, or student’s grandparent must be an enrolled member of a Federally Recognized Tribe within the United States;
● Note: If you have more than one AI/AN student in your home, please fill out one form per student.

How do I get my student counted for the program?
Please fill out and sign Form 506, and either mail, or scan and email it back to the District at [email protected].

What Benefits will this Program Create?
● One-on-one in-classroom assistance to guide learning and assignment work, or one-on-one assistance with a student in a safe, separate learning area to work on daily assignments;
● Tribal staff person to attend Individual Education Plan, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and/or Truancy meetings;
● Act as a connection between students’ parents and teachers, connection to cultural events;
● Formation of a Native Education Parent Advisory Committee;
● Make referrals to tribal or other providers for financial, food, rental, and utility assistance, employment and higher education assistance, and mental health counseling or substance use disorder counseling.

What if My Student Does Not Want these Services?
Not a problem! Filling out the “506” form does not obligate your student to receive any services. It does, however, increase the amount of financial support available for the program to benefit all children in all schools. Increasing cultural knowledge, breaking down negative stereotypes and providing a forum for you, the parent, to express your concerns and ideas about your child’s education benefits everyone. It is a “win-win” scenario.
